Observing Resources

Resources to help the EPRV community prepare competitive observing proposals and identify which instruments are available to apply for. Contributions are welcome — email eprv-rcn.leads [at] jpl.nasa.gov or reach out on Slack if you have materials to add.

EPRV Instruments and Availability

This table is a best-effort resource maintained by the exoplanet community listing current EPRV instrumentation, basic properties, and availability to help visitors identify which facilities they can apply to. Any RCN member is welcome to leave comments on the Google Sheet suggesting updates to help keep the listings current.

General guidelines

Best practices for framing science cases, choosing instruments and observing strategies, and presenting a clear technical case to TACs. Community-contributed notes and links will be collected here over time.

Figures and captions

Guidance on designing clear proposal figures and writing captions that support your science case.

Simulating EPRV data

Tools and examples for generating synthetic RV datasets to support feasibility arguments and survey design in proposals.

Additional notebooks or scripts that generate synthetic RV data with public code/ packages are welcome. If you are willing to share an example (or record a short walkthrough for the RCN YouTube channel), contact the RCN leads.

Exposure time calculators

Links to the exposure time calculators (ETCs) for individual EPRV instruments.

Contributions needed: if you maintain or regularly use an instrument ETC, please share the link and a short usage note with the RCN leads so we can list it here.

Examples of successful proposals

PDFs of previously accepted observing proposals (shared with the authors' permission) to illustrate what competitive proposals can look like across different TACs.

Coming soon: if you have an accepted proposal you are willing to share with the community, please contact the RCN leads and we will coordinate posting it here.
